The Treasurer, who will also be an active Trustee, will be responsible for the Charity’s finances and business vision, maintain financial controls and ensure we comply with our legal responsibilities as a Registered Charity.

What will you be doing?

Time commitment It is expected that the work will take approximately 2-3 hours per week, but this may vary between 2 and 6 hours per week, dependent on workload at the time. It is expected that the Treasurer will attend monthly Trustee meetings to keep up to date with current developments and update the Board of Trustees on financial matters. This will require a summary financial update and provision of comments on matters arising from a financial aspect. Being a Trustee As Treasurer to the Charity, you will also become a Trustee. Trustees are expected to understand and accept the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship and understand their role as a Trustee. Key responsibilities

Ensure there are clear, accurate records of the charity’s financial transactions Monitor large donations from individuals, estates, grants etc Manage the charity’s budget, banking facilities and investments Liaise with the NHS Purchasing team to make donations from the Charity Monitor and report on the financial health of the organisation Provide a monthly Treasurer’s update at monthly Trustee Board meetings File returns with the Charity Commission and ensure the charity complies with accounting policies and regulations Process Gift Aid claims Arrange for annual independent examination of the accounts

Essential skills

Financial qualifications and bookkeeping experience Computer literacy: competent using email and office software

Desirable skills/experience

Financial management expertise and an understanding of charity finance issues An understanding of charity governance Previous work as charity trustee or treasurer beneficial, but not essential
