What will you be doing?

As the Health & Safety / Facilities Trustee, you’ll take responsibility for shaping and implementing our branch’s health, safety, and facilities management strategy. Working closely with other trustees and branch members, you’ll ensure our premises and processes meet high standards, enabling our mission to thrive in a safe and supportive environment. Key Responsibilities

Safety Leadership: Develop, review, and improve health and safety protocols, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory standards. Facilities Management: Oversee the maintenance and safety of branch facilities, ensuring a safe, functional environment for staff, volunteers, and animals. Risk Management: Identify and mitigate health, safety, and facilities-related risks, implementing proactive measures to safeguard all branch activities. Community Engagement: Collaborate with stakeholders to promote a culture of safety, sharing best practices and building partnerships that support safe operations.

Core Trustee Role:

To be familiar with and support the aims and policies of the RSPCA. To work in conjunction with your fellow trustees and branch officers and jointly act in making decisions for the best interest of the branch and the RSPCA. Ensure the branch meets all the minimum animal welfare standards (MAWS).  Where they are not met, work with national RSPCA staff to meet the standard as soon as practicable. In conjunction with your fellow trustees and Branch Partnership Manager write, adopt, monitor & review a branch development plan setting out the short and long term aims of your branch. To actively participate in branch committee meetings and to attend the branch annual general meeting. To attend the trustee training course. Where applicable and in conjunction with your fellow trustees, ensure the proper management and control of all activities and decisions relating to any premises held or staff employed by the branch.  To act at all times as a good ambassador for the branch and the society.

What are we looking for?

Experience and Skills

Strong background in health and safety, facilities management, or a related field. Strategic mindset with experience in policy development and compliance. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with staff, volunteers, and community stakeholders. Committed to promoting a safe and supportive environment for all branch members and animals.
