What will you be doing?

Crawley Scouts is looking for a new District Chairperson to lead our trustee board. As our District Chair, you will help steer the future of Scouting in Crawley, supporting our goal to inspire and empower young people. This is a vital role that requires strategic oversight and the ability to support a skilled board and team of volunteers dedicated to enriching young people’s lives. Our primary goals are growth and compliance, ensuring that we can expand our reach and provide more young people with opportunities. We are focused on maintaining strong governance standards and meeting all requirements to keep our operations transparent, safe, and effective. Growth is essential to our mission, and we aim to connect with more young people and engage new volunteers to strengthen our programmes. We are looking for a leader with experience in governance and strong communication skills to engage and motivate trustees and volunteers. No Scouting experience is needed; we welcome candidates from a variety of backgrounds. Experience in fundraising or community engagement would also be beneficial. An understanding of the local community, as well as a passion for youth development and inclusivity, are qualities we value. This role would suit someone with previous board experience or a strong background in governance who is ready to bring their skills to support a community-focused, youth-oriented charity. As Chairperson, you will:

Lead the trustee board, ensuring it operates effectively and in line with our goals and values. Support trustees in carrying out their responsibilities and act as a mentor to newer trustees. Work closely with the District Commissioner to align our strategic direction with programme delivery. Represent Crawley District Scouts in the community and with partners, building relationships that benefit our organisation. Guide the development of sustainable financial strategies alongside the board to secure funding and manage resources. Oversee regular board meetings, ensuring all trustees are engaged, informed, and able to contribute meaningfully.

If you’re an inspiring leader ready to play a crucial role in shaping the future of Scouting in Crawley, we would love to hear from you. Join us in making a lasting impact on young people’s lives and contributing to the local community.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for an inspiring leader with a strong background in governance and strategic planning. Experience in chairing boards or committees is ideal, along with a good understanding of regulatory compliance and best practices in charitable governance. Skills in volunteer management are also valuable, as you will support and motivate a team of dedicated trustees and volunteers who are passionate about our mission. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential for building positive relationships within the board and with external partners. The ability to engage and collaborate effectively with a wide range of individuals is key, as is a commitment to fostering inclusivity and ensuring everyone has a voice. Qualities we value include integrity, adaptability, and a genuine passion for youth development and community impact. No prior Scouting experience is needed—just a readiness to bring your expertise to support and strengthen Crawley District Scouts. This role will suit someone who is collaborative, proactive, and committed to making a difference.

What difference will you make?

As District Chairperson, your leadership will be instrumental in shaping the future of Crawley District Scouts, directly influencing the opportunities available to young people in our community. Your guidance will help ensure that our programmes remain sustainable, inclusive, and impactful, allowing hundreds of young people to build confidence, resilience, and essential life skills. By supporting trustees and fostering strong relationships with community partners, you will enhance our local presence and drive new initiatives that bring additional resources and visibility to Scouting in Crawley. Through your strategic oversight, you will strengthen the board’s effectiveness, ensuring that we are financially stable, well-governed, and able to respond to the changing needs of young people. Ultimately, your role will empower the next generation to reach their full potential, make meaningful connections, and contribute positively to their community.
