The Woodland Trust is a highly respected UK charity focussed on woodland conservation. Our goal is to create an environment where people and nature flourish together through effective woodland habitats creation, restoration and protection. We are looking for a Site Manager to manage and represent our North Scotland sites.
Role Summary:
- Manage Woodland Trust’s sites in North Scotland.
- Lead creative woodland management, ancient woodland restoration and people engagement projects.
- Conduct Woodland Condition/PAWS Assessments and implement long-term management plans.
Role Requirements:
- Prior experience in land management sector preferably in forestry or woodland conservation.
- Experience dealing with stakeholders, managing contracts and budgets, and having knowledge of tree pests and diseases.
- A 'can-do' attitude, outstanding communication skills, commercial awareness.
- A full driving license is mandatory as the role will require travel.

THE ROLE: As a Site Manager, you will manage the Woodland Trust’s sites in North Scotland to high professional standards, in accordance with our conservation principles, management approach, policies, and contracts, contributing to the Trust’s strategic goals. This is a key role in the Scotland team to represent the Woodland Trust locally, managing a diverse portfolio of sites across the Highlands centered around Glenurquhart and Southeast Sutherland. You will lead creative woodland management, ancient woodland restoration, and people engagement projects, engaging stakeholders and being a strong advocate for our work and values. Additionally, you will carry out Woodland Condition/PAWS Assessments and monitoring to inform, write, and implement long-term management plans for the woods in the area of responsibility.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: You’ll need experience working in the land management sector, preferably in forestry or woodland conservation. You will have experience with engaging a wide range of stakeholders including landowners, statutory and public bodies, and local communities. Contract and budget management experience, including tendering and appointing, is essential. Working knowledge of tree pests and diseases and the impacts on woodlands is required. A proactive ‘can-do’ attitude, excellent communication skills, commercial awareness, and the ability to build effective partnerships internally and externally are crucial. The role covers North Scotland and will require the successful candidate to travel across the region and occasionally within the UK, with overnight stays. A full driving licence is required.
