Role Summary:

  • Document and analyze bioarchaeological collections and human skeletal remains recently donated by Sudan's National Corporation for Antiquities and Museums;

Role Requirements:

  • MSc (or equivalent) in Human Osteology, Biological Anthropology, or Bioarchaeology;
  • Expertise in human skeletal and dental identification;
  • Knowledge of ethical standards associated with the curation of human remains;
  • Experience working with relevant collections, documentation, and museum databases;

The British Museum, founded in 1753, is a leading visitor attraction with a remarkable collection spanning over two million years of human history and culture. Our world-famous collection includes the Rosetta Stone, Egyptian mummies, the Sutton-Hoo finds, and the Lewis Chessmen. We also hold an extensive collection of prints and drawings spanning 600 years.

The role of Project Curator: Nile Valley Bioarchaeology Collection involves documenting and making publicly accessible the Nile Valley bioarchaeological collection, in support of the Museum’s Masterplan, the Museum Operating Plan and all relevant Museum strategies. This includes improving their accessibility via the Museum’s digital online platforms and the recording and preliminary analysis of human skeletal remains recently donated by Sudan’s National Corporation for Antiquities and Museums.

Job requirements include an MSc (or equivalent) in Human osteology, biological anthropology or bioarchaeology, experience of documentation, expertise in human skeletal and dental identification, knowledge of ethical standards associated with the curation of human remains, and some experience of working with relevant collections, museum documentation and museum databases.
