Role Summary

Role Requirements

  • Extensive experience in forestry and land management.
  • Proven leadership with strong motivational skills.
  • Experience managing multi-disciplinary projects and programmes in a forestry setting.
  • Strong understanding of current environmental policy, conservation and land management.
  • Confident in building and developing partnerships.
  • Good understanding of procurement and contract management.

The Role: 

•  This is an exciting opportunity as we are looking for a Head of Estate and Programmes to join our Scotland Management team and lead the Trust’s estate and programmes team in Scotland, ensuring that the estate and associated programmes are managed to the highest professional standards and in accordance with the Woodland Trust’s management approach, policies and standards.

•  They will lead the development on the Trust’s Treescape Programme in Scotland, promoting partnership working internally and externally and ensuring the Trust’s priorities and objectives are delivered.

•  This role will manage a team of professional site managers, project and programme staff and ensure they remain motivated and able to carry out their roles efficiently and effectively.

•  Identify and develop strategic partnerships that will aid the delivery of the Trust’s vision in Scotland, particularly in the fields of conservation, forestry, land-use management and farming.

•  This role is based in Scotland and will require the successful candidate to undertake travel across Scotland and the UK.

The Candidate: 

•  You have an enthusiasm for the environment and share our core values—Grow Together, Explore, Focus and Make it Count.

•  This is a key role in our Scotland Management team and for candidates to stand out, we are looking for experience of working in forestry and land management with extensive experience of native woodland management. 

•  You’ll be an inspiring leader with experience of managing people, you’ll be results driven, motivated and commercially aware. You’ll have the ability to motivate and develop teams to perform their best.

•  Should have previously managed complex multi-disciplinary projects and programmes within a forestry setting, with experience in procurement and contract management.

•  Knowledge of Scotland’s land use with a strong understanding of current environmental policy, conservation and land management issues. 

•  Confident in building and developing partnerships with external and internal stakeholders and able to influence different audiences, to successfully change attitudes and behaviours for strategic impact.

•  Strong leadership skills with the ability to collaborate with a diverse range of teams and stakeholders to ensure the best development of strategies and outcomes.
