As a Panel Member for the AIL Panel, you will:
- Serve on a subcommittee of the National Council and provide advice to state officials.
- Evaluate offerings made to the nation under the AIL and Cultural Gifts Schemes.
- Assess the physical condition of artworks and have an understanding of the current art market and valuations.
Role Requirements:
- A strong understanding of the decorative arts; a special interest in ceramics is an advantage.
- You must be full-time freelance or self-employed, a freelancer or self-employed person who also has a part-time salaried job, or unwaged or not in receipt of a salary.
Members can claim an allowance of £50 per hour up to £350 per day.

The Role As a Panel Member for the Acceptance in Lieu (AIL) Panel, you will be part of a subcommittee of Arts Council England’s National Council. You will advise the Secretary of State for DCMS, and the Ministers in the devolved governments, on items offered to the nation under the Acceptance in Lieu and Cultural Gifts Schemes. This role requires a good knowledge of the decorative arts; a special interest in ceramics would be an advantage. You will also need to assess the physical condition of artworks under consideration, have a working knowledge of the current art market and valuations, and an awareness of the strengths and weaknesses of relevant holdings in public institutions in the United Kingdom.

Job Requirements To be eligible for the allowance members must be either full-time freelance or self-employed, a freelancer or self-employed person who also has a part-time salaried job, or unwaged or not in receipt of a salary. Members can claim £50 per hour up to £350 per day. This can include travel time.

Benefits This is a voluntary role, with UK expenses reimbursed. An allowance is available to freelance/self-employed AIL Panel Members.
