What will you be doing?

We are looking for trustee to join our board. We’re interested in applicants with experience in charity/sector fundraising. Ideally, the candidate will have a vested interest in recovery from addiction. We are a small charity that provides free counselling and peer support for people who are struggling with drugs or alcohol and who have no or limited funds. Our clients are often those who are stuck in the system or falling through the cracks. Apart from a part-time CEO and part-time support officer, we are a volunteer-led charity and so ideally want trustees who can be more hands-on than the traditional role if possible. This is ideal but not essential. The trustee will help shape the direction of a relatively new charity that currently has the energy and position of a start-up organisation. We have a solid platform to build on and were recently awarded Cranfield Trust’s Journey to Excellence award and presented to their patron, HRH Princess Royal. Key duties

Actively engage with all the governance and legal responsibilities of a trustee. Be part of our board of trustees and participating in our monthly board meeting (Zoom) and occasional face-to-face catch-ups. Lead on their fundraising strategy and plan, working closely with treasurer and CEO. Jointly responsible for the overall strategy, direction and growth of the charity.

Commitment Three hours a month for the board meeting: two hours for the meeting, an hour to digest reports and papers. Occasional time supporting major fundraising bids and about two-three hours annually helping with our annual report and accounts. Qualifications and experience At least three years’ experience in fundraising at a strategic level. Leadership experience, direction-setting, teamwork and demonstrable decision-making skills are essential. Key skills As well as ability to self-organise, the candidate must be able to  demonstrate:

Expertise in fundraising Decision-making Direction-setting Leadership

What difference will you make?

The desired outcome for our clients is abstinence from drugs or alcohol. This can often lead to them being more connected to family and friends, lead more fulfilling lives, and a more productive member of society. Ensure our finances are in order and that we can be more confident in our grant applications should see the charity in a position to help more beneficiaries.
