Role Summary

  • Assisting with the mounting of objects for gallery displays, loans, and large temporary exhibitions.

The Role The Conservation department are looking for a permanent costume display conservator to join the costume mounting team. This role will support the museum with the mounting of objects for loans, gallery displays and large temporary exhibitions, many of which go on to tour internationally. Tasks will include the design and preparation of complex mounts for contemporary and historic dress, including the construction of bespoke replica garments. Additional tasks may involve the design and manufacture of packing for costumes and accessories included in touring exhibitions and smaller loans. Candidates should have relevant costume mounting experience gained working in a museum, conservation workshop or private conservation practice, and be able to demonstrate pattern-cutting with advanced sewing and construction skills.
