What will you be doing?
The board, led by Jatinder Verma MBE (the first non-white director to work at the National Theatre), is strong in arts and cultural work, as well as in community engagement, accounting and charity management. As a small arts organisation outside the Arts Council's National Portfolio, we are very aware of the need for careful strategic planning and sound management in order to be sustainable and to grow in the current climate. This is particularly the case for us as an internationally-focused arts charity. We have generated a Strategic Plan to take us forward, and this involves important strategies for growth, international partnerships, local initiatives, and fundraising. Our current legal director is retiring from the board, and we need to recruit a strong and committed replacement.
What are we looking for?
First and foremost, you will share a passion for our vision, values and the art forms we engage with. You will also have experience, expertise and energy to bring to the table in two or more of the following areas: • Contracts• Charity law• Copyright and intellectual property• Property law The board meets online on a quarterly basis and it is expected that board members do not miss more than two meetings each year. This is a voluntary unpaid position.
What difference will you make?
The board will be crucial to the organisation's development over the next five years, allowing us
to present a series of projects in collaboration with artists from a range of cultural backgrounds, including Europe, Latin America and the Middle East to work directly with refugees and Middle Eastern communities in the UK to engage with cultural policy at national and European levels to engage London schools and communities directly in our artistic programme to develop exciting new initiatives around spaces for intercultural performance to become involved in international training exchanges and initiatives, particularly with the Irish Republic and mainland Europe
What is in it for you?
You will be part of an exciting period of change management in an inspiring and innovative arts organisation. You will get the chance to make a real difference to the cultural landscape, both nationally and internationally, engaging with the key questions that face the world today. You will be working with leading theatre-makers to bring about real changes in people's lives.
