What will you be doing?
The Board of Trustees is responsible for the governance of FOCUS, ensuring that we fulfil our obligations: to meet our charitable aims and funders’ commitments such as achieving agreed outcomes. Trustees attend quarterly meetings and take on activities between meetings. They are also encouraged to visit our projects each year to remind them about what makes FOCUS so special. Meetings are usually in Leicester although remote attendance can sometimes be possible. We are seeking to strengthen our financial and fundraising expertise within our Board.
What are we looking for?
We currently have an enthusiastic Board of Trustees with a wide range of skills. After a regular review of the skills and backgrounds of our Board, we believe that we would benefit from the appointment of two trustees with backgrounds in:
Fundraising or campaign management, bringing networks and insights to govern fundraising activities, enabling FOCUS to raise more money to reach more young people, through campaigns, grant applications or corporate support. Marketing or communications to ensure that we promote FOCUS effectively, reaching our target audiences to drive increased volunteering, financial or other support.
Experience in the voluntary sector is preferable but not mandatory. FOCUS warmly embraces the values of inclusion, equality and diversity. We welcome interest from all sections of the community, regardless of background. Most importantly, we seek applications from people who desire to play a small but important part in this life-changing organisation.
What difference will you make?
Since its creation in 1988, FOCUS has worked with over 21,000 young people. Over 4500 volunteers have helped run our programmes. Today, FOCUS is one of the leading youth organisations in the East Midlands. We believe passionately in the power of our projects to bring about lasting change in people’s lives by running projects that enhance their skills, confidence and aspirations. This passion is shared by staff, volunteers and participants. It is the job of the Board of Trustees to harness the energy and talent of everybody involved and provide a guiding hand to the organisation as a whole. The specific roles we are recruiting for will enable FOCUS to diversify its sources of income and provide greater capacity to implement our financial policies.
