What will you be doing?

Our Public Protection Committee is one of four committees responsible for supporting the development and ongoing delivery of BACP's strategy, providing the oversight that ensures our policies and processes are being applied consistently and effectively.By joining the Public Protection Committee as Chair, you'll have the opportunity to contribute directly to the way BACP operates.  The committee:

develops the BACP Register, which it delegates to the Register Advisory Board develops our professional conduct function provides quality assurance for professional conduct and register activities takes and commissions reports on internal audits against policy and the development of register standards, and their alignment into membership standards

Becoming the Chair of the Public Protection Committee is extremely beneficial as you'll play a key role in promoting and developing the safe, ethical and competent practice in counselling and psychotherapy.  We're recruiting for a professional to become the Chair of our Public Protection Committee. The Chair of the Committee will be an externally appointed Lay Member who will also become a Trustee of the Association.   

What are we looking for?

The Chair of the Public Protection Committee will have:

Strategic insight into public protection, with a clear understanding of how regulation, standards, public education, and preventative approaches collectively serve the public interest.  Experience of shaping or contributing to strategy at organisational or Board level, particularly in contexts involving risk, public confidence, or professional accountability.  Good understanding and experience of governance and assurance at Board and Committee level Excellent objective decision making and ethical awareness Experience of being a chair and effectively managing committee members A willingness to devote time and effort ensuring the effective delivery of the responsibilities of the role

Understanding of charity governance, including trustee responsibilities under UK charity law and the Charity Governance Code.    Knowledge and experience of the third sector advantageous but not essential.

BACP's committees are responsible for supporting the development and ongoing delivery of the strategy as well as providing the oversight that ensures our polices and processes are being applied consistently and effectively. As a member of one of our committees, you'll have the opportunity to contribute directly to the way BACP operates and have specific oversight of the public protection agenda.
