Role Summary

About the organisation: The British Museum is a leading visitor attraction with a remarkable collection spanning over two million years of human history and culture. The Museum holds an extensive collection of prints and drawings spanning 600 years, including works by the greatest graphic artists such as Dürer, Michelangelo and Rembrandt.
The role: The British Museum is seeking a Project Assistant Archivist (Rehouse) to join teams working at the new British Museum Archaeological Research Collection (BM_ARC) in Reading. The main purpose of the role is to rehouse paper records relating to excavated archaeological assemblages. The role will be responsible for arranging the archive in new storage at BM_ARC and updating relevant digital catalogue records. The role will also support the Archivist in sustaining access to and providing information about this archival resource for Museum staff and members of the public.
Job requirements: The candidate should have a degree in a relevant subject or equivalent experience. Proven technical and professional information management skills, experience of working with digital archive catalogues and of handling fragile archive records, awareness and understanding of archive cataloguing standards, awareness of the use of paper excavation records within archaeological archives and research, confident user of IT software, and experience of administration. Experience of working in a records management or archive context in a public or private sector organization is required.
