What will you be doing?
Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP) is an international movement that started in the 1970s in the American prison system. AVP Britain (AVPB) is one of multiple independent branches which operate around the globe. A registered national charity, AVP Britain is committed to working towards a non-violent society through our conflict resolution programmes provided to prisons and communities across Britain, via distance learning, online and in-person at our London office. We are seeking individuals with:
A commitment to the organisation and its vision for a non-violent society. A willingness to devote the necessary time and effort. Strategic vision. Good, independent judgement. An ability to think creatively. A willingness to speak their mind. An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship. An ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
As Treasurer you will also have the following qualities:
Financial qualifications and experience. Some experience of charity finance, fundraising and pension schemes. Ability to analyse proposals and examine their financial consequences. Be prepared to make unpopular recommendations to the board. A willingness to be available to staff for advice and enquiries on an ad hoc basis.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for people willing to bring energy, enthusiasm and commitment to the role, and who will broaden the diversity of thinking on our board. As well as financial qualifications and experience:
A strategic mindset and the ability to deploy this within the context of a small organisation with limited resources. Experience of fundraising in relation to Trusts and Foundations and contracting. Experience of digital fundraising. Experience of Business development.
What difference will you make?
As part of the AVPB Board of Trustees, you will share collective responsibility for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity, its financial health, the probity of its activities and developing the organisation’s aims, objectives and goals in accordance with the governing document, legal and regulatory guidelines. The skills and knowledge you bring as Treasurer is so important to us. Not only do we need someone to help us keep on track financially and keep us viable, but even more significantly we are looking for someone to help us formulate our vision for the future. You will play an important role in contributing to/guiding/informing the Board’s collective responsibility and enhancing AVPB in achieving its charitable objectives.
