What will you be doing?
We are currently looking for a Treasurer who has an interest in one or more of the following: social justice, housing justice, community development, urban planning, women’s services. We very much want our trustees to reflect our diverse Islington community and shape our activities, and actively welcome applicants from underrepresented groups. You do not necessarily need to be local to Islington. CP4H currently has 8 trustees who define the strategy and direction of our work. There are also 3 part-time staff who focus on operational matters, and one further part-time staff member leading on a youth research project.This is a volunteer role, but we will reimburse reasonable expenses in relation to your work as a trustee/Treasurer.
What are we looking for?
What kind of skills do we need in particular? As Treasurer, we are looking for someone who has previous proven experience of financial management, including being the link for the organisation between the board and the accountant. Bookkeeping skills are also welcome, though not essential. Further skills could include one or more of the following:
A background in architecture or planning or urban development Experience in advocating for social change Fundraising Employment and/or contract law Ability to work as part of a team and willingness to take collective responsibility for the governance of our organisation Ability to analyse risks and opportunities and take a balanced approach to both
Communications, advocacy and lived experience as a social rent tenant, or shared ownership resident (especially a Peabody resident), or as someone who has direct or indirect experience of the criminal justice system are other skills and experience that will be especially relevant to our work. An interest in human rights is essential.
What difference will you make?
As our Treasurer you will have an important role in supporting the work of The Community Planfor Holloway at a crucial time.
You would take the lead to keep the board updated on organisational finances on a monthly basis, working with our accountant and book keeper, though we would warmly welcome applications from anyone qualified in book keeping. You would also be crucial in developing our strategy through your financial managment. You would have a chance to positively impact the largest development Islingtonhas seen since the 1970s, and contribute to increasing community involvement in suchlarge planning and housing projects and be involved in the national debate around housing. You would be key in defining our strategy and work as the development takes shape.

be involved with monitoring the build and holding the developer and the council to account help support the development of the Women's Space, which will bring back some of the services women were once offered at the prison get involved with developing training and job opportunities in construction on the site, especially for women
