What will you be doing?

CMV Action is the UK’s only charity supporting families affected by cCMV and raising awareness to prevent its spread. It provides support through a helpline and email services, shares vital information with families and professionals, and collaborates with researchers to improve outcomes and promote prevention. 1 in 200 newborn babies are born with congenital cytomegalovirus (cCMV) in the UK. The majority of these babies will not have any symptoms but around 1 in 1000 will be severely affected, equivalent to approximately 900 children every year in the UK. The potential long‑term health impacts can include deafness, developmental delays and vision loss. cCMV can also cause miscarriage during pregnancy and stillbirth.    The Role As treasurer, you will play a key role in overseeing the financial health of our charity and ensuring we are well-positioned to continue our work. You will work with us to ensure that the charity complies with its governing document, charity law and any other relevant legislation or regulations.     Responsibilities

Provide strategic advice on financial management to ensure effective and sustainable resource use. Guide the exploration of new financial opportunities, adjusting strategies to align with our mission. Use financial analysis, data and best practices to guide the charity toward optimal outcomes.

What this role involves

Remote attendance at a 1-hour monthly finance meeting and four quarterly trustee meetings. Work closely with the charity book-keeper to approve budgets, accounts and financial statements and ensure that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place. Guide and advise fellow trustees in the board’s formal approval of the annual report and externally examined accounts.

What are we looking for?

We are seeking a Treasurer who shares our values and can bring the following skills and experience to our board:

Background in finance, accounting or financial management with a relevant professional qualification (e.g., ACCA, CIMA, ICAEW); charity finance experience is highly desirable. Strong interpersonal skills and dedication to collaborative, sustainable funding strategies. Commitment to honest, transparent and ethical financial management and reporting. Analytical mindset, using data and research to inform mission-driven financial decisions.

What difference will you make?

Your financial guidance will be crucial in helping us secure our future and enable us to continue our vital work. Join a board that is dedicated, collaborative, and committed to making a difference. Play a pivotal role in developing and implementing a sustainable funding strategy, so that we can continue to support future families affected by congenital CMV.
