The Designated Safeguarding Officer (DSO) is responsible for ensuring that safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures are effectively implemented within our organisation.

What will you be doing?

Act as the first point of contact for safeguarding concerns, ensuring appropriate action is taken in line with policies and procedures. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding legislation and best practices. Ensure all safeguarding concerns are logged, reported, and appropriately escalated. Provide guidance, support, and training to staff, volunteers, and young people on safeguarding matters. Liaise with relevant local authorities, social services, and other safeguarding agencies when necessary. Review and update safeguarding policies and procedures regularly to ensure compliance. Promote a safe and inclusive environment for all participants, particularly children, young people, and vulnerable adults. Support safer recruitment practices, including DBS checks and training compliance. Attend safeguarding training and meetings as required.

What are we looking for?

Essential:

Experience in safeguarding, child protection, or a related role. Understanding of safeguarding legislation, policies, and best practices. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to handle sensitive issues with professionalism and discretion. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team. Commitment to promoting the safety and wellbeing of children, young people, and vulnerable adults. Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.

Desirable:

Safeguarding training or certification (or willingness to undertake training). Previous experience working within a youth, community, or charitable organisation. Knowledge of safer recruitment practices and risk assessment.
