Buglife, an organization committed to halting invertebrate extinction and promoting sustainable populations, is seeking a Species Recovery Officer. This role will be instrumental in directing a wide range of conservation and research projects throughout South-east and East England. This position encompasses project management, partnership building, habitat management, innovation in species conservation, community engagement, and financial oversight.

Buglife is recruiting a Species Recovery Officer to help to deliver a portfolio of conservation and research projects across the South-east and East of England. This role will include project management, partnership working, overseeing practical habitat management works, developing and delivering innovative ideas and solutions to species conservation, coordinating permissions and managing specialist contractors, working with local communities, managing volunteers, public relations, financial management and teamwork.

We are looking for someone who has their own area of interest and specialism but can also demonstrate a broad knowledge of invertebrate ecology and a willingness to expand their knowledge and work in new areas. The ideal candidate should have knowledge of a range of invertebrate groups, a good level of ecological knowledge and understanding of conservation issues, understanding of invertebrate and site legislation and survey practice, project management, financial knowledge and experience, excellent team-working skills, with a confident and persuasive manner, excellent written and oral communication skills, including collating information, report-writing and producing information resources, fundraising capability including for projects outside your own area of expertise, experience of raising public awareness of wildlife and environmental issues, experience of organising events and involving the public in projects, some botanical knowledge, and a full current driving licence.

Buglife’s aim is to halt the extinction of invertebrate species and to achieve sustainable populations of invertebrates. We are working hard to achieve this through promoting the environmental importance of invertebrates and raising awareness about the challenges to their survival, assisting in the development of legislation and policy that will ensure the conservation of invertebrates, developing and disseminating knowledge about how to conserve invertebrates, encouraging and supporting invertebrate conservation initiatives by other organisations in the UK, Europe and worldwide, and undertaking practical conservation projects that will contribute to achieving our aim.
