The British Museum is seeking a Senior Programme Manager to lead the Energy Centre Programme, a major sustainability initiative aimed at transforming our Grade I listed building into a net zero museum. This full-time, permanent position offers a salary of £65,471 and is based in Bloomsbury, London.
The role: As the Senior Programme Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Energy Centre Programme. This includes managing planning, delivery, enabling works, and business-as-usual projects, ensuring they integrate seamlessly with other museum-wide initiatives. You will manage both internal teams and external partners, driving the project to completion on time and within budget, while maintaining compliance with statutory requirements. High-level reporting, risk management, and stakeholder relationship building will be key components of your role.
About the project: The Energy Centre Programme is set to begin construction soon, replacing the museum's gas boilers with air and water source heat pumps and renewing all primary services infrastructure. This overhaul is crucial for reducing our carbon footprint and achieving our goal of becoming a net zero institution.
Job requirements: Suitable candidates should have experience managing large-scale, multi-stakeholder projects in heritage, construction, or infrastructure sectors. You should be adept at integrating multiple workstreams, managing complex programmes, and adhering to strict project management standards and statutory requirements such as CDM 2015 and the Building Safety Act.
