The British Museum is undergoing an extraordinary transformation project, re-imagining the visitor experience. As a Security Officer in the Visitor and Security Services department, you will play a crucial role in providing a welcoming, safe, and secure environment for our visitors, staff, and our world-famous collection. In 2024, the British Museum in Camden was the most visited museum in the UK with 6.5 million visitors.

The role: As a Security Officer, you will be the first and last person visitors see, making your role pivotal in the visitor experience. Your responsibilities will include welcoming visitors, conducting security bag and vehicle searches, controlling access, patrolling public spaces, responding to alarms and security incidents, and providing security services for events.

Job requirements: Candidates should have experience in an operational security role, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to work cooperatively in a team. A high level of awareness and responsiveness to security situations is essential. A valid SIA Door Supervisor licence is essential, and assistance may be provided for successful applicants without one.
