What will you be doing?
The For Baby’s Sake Trust is seeking a skilled and motivated volunteer to help us identify and secure new funding opportunities during a critical phase of growth and impact. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a charity that works directly with families across England to break the cycle of domestic abuse and give every baby the best start in life. What you’ll do: You’ll play a vital role in strengthening our fundraising pipeline by researching potential funders—trusts, foundations, and other grant-giving organisations. You'll gather key information such as funding deadlines, contact details, strategic priorities, and where these align with our work. Your insights will help us target our fundraising efforts more effectively and efficiently. Key deliverable: A comprehensive, well-organised spreadsheet of prospective funders (updated regularly), complete with actionable insights that our fundraising team can immediately use. Support and collaboration: You’ll work closely with our Fundraising Managers, with regular check-ins and support to help guide your research and ensure your work has maximum impact. Flexibility: While we have a clear goal, we’re open to shaping the role around your skills and interests. Whether you bring additional strengths in grant writing, fundraising events management, relationship management, or strategic planning, there’s room for you to make your mark. Come be part of something meaningful—your time and skills could help transform lives.
What are we looking for?
We’re looking for a proactive and detail-oriented volunteer with enthusiasm and interest in learning more about fundraising. You don't necessarily need to have experience in fundraising, but you need to have good critical thinking skills, be organised, and be able to spot alignment between a funder’s priorities and our charity’s mission. You’ll ideally bring:
Strong administrative and organisational skills, including experience using spreadsheets or CRM systems The ability to synthesise and present information clearly and usefully A self-starting attitude, curiosity, and a keen eye for opportunities A genuine interest in supporting vulnerable families and babies experiencing domestic abuse
Desirable, but not essential:
Experience in fundraising, including research and donor pipeline development Familiarity with various kinds of fundraising (eg. trust fundraising, events fundraising, community fundraising, digital fundraising) or relationship-building with philanthropists
You don’t need to be an expert in everything—but if you’re organised, motivated, and passionate about using your skills to drive real change, we’d love to hear from you.
What difference will you make?
Your contribution will directly jumpstart and reinvigorate our fundraising efforts at a pivotal time for The For Baby’s Sake Trust. By taking on the essential task of researching and mapping out prospective funders, you’ll be alleviating a major time burden from our fundraising team. You can help free up time for our Fundraising Managers to focus on crafting high-impact, compelling funding bids. This means we can move more swiftly and strategically to secure the financial support needed to reach more families experiencing domestic abuse. This volunteering role comes at a critical period of growth for our organisation. As we establish a newly expanded team and respond to increasing demand for our services, your support will help us build the internal capacity to meet our long-term fundraising goals. The funder intelligence and strategic groundwork you provide will serve as a cornerstone of our fundraising strategy, allowing us to better plan, prioritise, and engage with funders who share our mission. In short, you’ll be helping us raise more money, faster, to provide life-changing support to babies and families across England. This is more than a volunteering role—it’s a chance to directly influence the sustainability and reach of a growing charity making a powerful difference.
