At the forefront of space sustainability, the European Space Agency (ESA) is actively executing the ADRIOS project (Active Debris Removal [ADR] and In-Orbit Servicing [IOS]). This showcases the ESA's dedication to ensure safe future use of Earth orbits with its forward-thinking methods for reducing space debris and promoting space asset recycling, aiming for a circular economy in space.

  • Role Summary: As the ADRIOS Space Segment Lead, you will hold a key position in coordinating the Project Core Team and other technical experts, reporting to the Project Manager. Your tasks will involve managing, technical execution, coordination and knowledge-sharing.
  • Role Requirements: The candidate should ideally have over 10 years of experience in satellite development, system engineering and familiarity with product assurance standards (ECSS). A background in robotics, avionics, or software would be beneficial. A Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline is a requirement. The candidate should also be capable of autonomous work, initiative taking and possess influencing communication skills.

The goal of the ADRIOS missions is to demonstrate and progressively establish European ADR and IOS, advancing towards a circular economy in space. This forward-thinking approach aims to guarantee the safe use of Earth orbits for future generations, reducing space debris and promoting the reuse and recycling of space assets.

As the ADRIOS Space Segment Lead, you will report to the Project Manager. You will be in charge of leading and coordinating the Project Core Team and other technical experts from the Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality and from the Directorate of Operations. Your main responsibilities will include management, technical execution, and coordination and knowledge-sharing.

Job requirements include more than 10 years of hands-on experience in satellite development (up to operations), system engineering and product assurance standards (ECSS). A master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline is required for this post. A background in robotics, avionics and/or software would be an asset. You should also have an interest in working with companies that are relatively new in the space field; be capable of working autonomously and taking initiative; demonstrate good interpersonal skills and strong communications skills to lead a team of technical experts and provide constructive feedback.
