The Role The V&A is pleased to announce a new doctoral placement opportunity for the 2025–2026 academic year. Applications close on Friday 30 May 2025. As part of our commitment to supporting early-career researchers, the V&A offers a range of doctoral placements designed in collaboration with museum staff. These placements provide PhD students with opportunities to contribute to live research projects while gaining experience in collections-based research, transcription, and archival study.
This placement will support the ongoing transcription, research, and interpretation of the handwritten travel journals of V&A founding director Henry Cole (1808–1882). These journals document Cole’s tours of Britain in the 1830s and his later purchasing trips across France, Germany, and Italy, offering valuable insights into the formation of the museum and wider 19th-century collecting practices.
The Company The Company has experienced unprecedented growth over the past few years. We have a vast number of employees, and provide support to clients from all over the country.
