"We felt like we were on an episode of Anthony Bourdain because we were taken into the back alleys of Bangkok's Chinatown to find the hidden gems of the city"

Bangkok food tour, Tripadvisor

Each of our immersive food experiences lasts four hours, hosting a maximum of 8 guests who taste 15+ dishes from street vendors, family-run eateries, and market stalls.

We’re now looking for 2-3 passionate, highly skilled food and travel experts to help us expand to over 100 destinations around the world. If you've ever dreamed of Anthony Bourdain’s job, this is your chance.

🍣The Role: Culinary Travel Specialist (Tour Designer)

As a food tour designer, you’ll work with us on a project basis launching new tours on the ground in Asia, Africa and Latin America. Projects are between 3 and 12 weeks depending on location. An example 8-week project in South America includes designing new food tours in Quito, Guayaquil, Lima, Cusco, Arequipa and La Paz.

In each city, you’ll build at least two new food tours from scratch—researching, tasting, and curating an unforgettable experience. You’ll receive remote support for research, guide recruitment, and logistics, but you will be on the ground, leading the charge in each new destination.

📌Fully funded travel: We cover all transport, hotels, visa costs, research expenses, travel insurance, transfers, and provide a monthly salary (to be discussed based on experience).

🔎 Who We’re Looking For

We need exceptional individuals with a rare combination of food knowledge, tour operations experience, and adaptability who want to be part of building something with our small, lean team.

✅ Must-Have Skills & Experience

  • Tour & travel industry expertise – At least 2+ years of guiding/tour leader experience.
  • Culinary passion & knowledge – Deep understanding of local food culture & street food scenes. Ability to quickly identify authentic, insider food experiences (e.g., meeting Mumbai’s dabbawallas, exploring a baklava workshop in Istanbul) in places that you may not have travelled to before.
  • Fast-paced, independent traveler – Comfortable with solo travel, managing flights, visas, and local transport. Ideally, you have a passport that allows easy visa access.
  • Highly organised & detail-oriented – Able to research, manage budgets, and run logistics independently.
  • Excellent writing & communication – Strong English skills to write tour scripts and train guides remotely.
  • Passion for Food – You should love food, especially street food, and be willing to taste almost anything (no strict dietary restrictions).

🎯Bonus Skills (Highly Desirable)

  • Chef or Culinary Background – Experience as a chef or cook.
  • Photography/Videography Skills – Ability to capture high-quality images & videos of tours.
  • Experience designing or launching new tours is a big plus.

✈️ Your Responsibilities

Over 7 days in each destination, you will:

  • Research & curate unique food stops Find authentic, off-the-beaten-path food vendors and local eateries.
  • Taste, test & finalise the experience – Ensure quality, variety, and uniqueness in the selection.
  • Handle budgets & logistics – Secure vendor partnerships and create detailed tour cost breakdowns.
  • Find & train local guides – Recruit top-quality guides and train them to run the tour at a high standard.
  • Write the tour script – Document historical/cultural insights and structure an engaging storytelling approach.
  • Capture content (highly desirable) – Take high-quality photos & videos for marketing purposes.

Remote support will help you with much of the research before you arrive in the destination.

💫 What We Provide

  • Fully paid travel & work experience – Flights, accommodation, transport, visa fees, research costs, travel insurance and expenses.
  • Competitive salary – Pro rata monthly pay per project (to be discussed based on experience).
  • Full training & support – 2-week training abroad with our team opening a new food tour destination before tackling your first project.
  • Paid breaks in select destinations you travel to – Because you’ll need some downtime too!
  • Career growth – At the end of the contract, potential for a permanent remote leadership role or another contract to expand further.

✉️ How to Apply

1️⃣ Send us your CV & a short cover letter about why you would be suitable for this role.

2️⃣ Tell us about a food experience that changed your perspective on a culture.

The finalist(s) will be invited to a 1-2 week fully paid live training with one or two of the managers at A Chef's Tour in a location to be decided. Together you will help curate and design several new food tours to fully learn the process of opening new food tours. You’ll then work to finalise itineraries and travel plans before starting your first full multi-destination project.
