What will you be doing?
Strategic
To contribute to the development and review of the Charity’s strategic goals and objectives
Legal Expertise
To provide strategic legal advice to the Board in areas of contracts, employment and HR and charity governance To manage/source external legal resources when required
Governance
To ensure that the charity complies with its governing document, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulation To ensure that the Board is aware of its legal duties and responsibilities
What are we looking for?
The trustee with legal expertise position would suit someone with legal training and experience, whether this is in-house or in private practice. Areas that typically fall for consideration by the Board include issues of charity law, employment law, commercial contracts and GDPR/data protection. In addition to the broader duties of all Trustees, each Trustee should use their specific skills, knowledge or experience to help the Board reach sound decisions. This will involve scrutinising Board papers, leading discussions on relevant issues and providing advice and guidance on areas of the Charity's work in which the Trustee has special expertise.
