What will you be doing?
At Reading Mencap, we’re very proud of the vital services we deliver and we’re looking for someone who shares our passion to join us as Chair of Trustees. As Chair, you’ll play a pivotal role in improving the lives of people with learning disabilities and their families in Reading. You will hold responsibility for the governance of the charity, and its strategic long term plans, ensuring that Reading Mencap strives to achieve its mission. You will provide support to the CEO, offering guidance, encouragement and challenge constructively. You will also act as a spokesperson and figurehead for Reading Mencap.
Strong leadership and communication skills A commitment to the values, mission, goals and activities of Reading Mencap Experience in strategic planning and governance (desirable) A genuine passion for supporting people with learning disabilities Ideally have experience operating in the field of learning disability The ability to work well with a diverse group of people A strong personal commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion Local knowledge of Reading (desirable)
What are we looking for?
Essential skills and experience of Chair
Experience of being a Trustee, and a willingness to attend appropriate training courses relevant to the role of Chair A proven understanding of strategic purpose The ability to listen and engage effectively. To be comfortable with challenge and debate whilst fostering a collaborative board environment Be responsive and adaptable
