What will you be doing?

Key Responsibilities  Financial Oversight and Management 

Oversee the development of the annual budget and monitor income and expenditure against it.  Ensure the CIO maintains accurate and up-to-date accounting records.  Prepare or review financial statements for presentation to the Board of Trustees and the Charity Commission.  Ensure that appropriate financial controls, policies, and procedures are in place and adhered to.  Manage the CIO's bank accounts, investments, and cash flow.  Advise the Board of Trustees on the financial implications of the CIO's strategic plans and decisions.  Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations, including the Charities Act 2011 and SORP (Statement of Recommended Practice).  Liaise with the CIO's auditors or independent examiners, as required. 

Strategic Contribution 

Contribute to the development of the CIO's strategic plan, providing financial input and analysis.  Participate in Board of Trustees meetings and provide financial updates.  Identify and assess the financial risks facing the CIO and recommend mitigating actions. 

Governance and Compliance 

Ensure the CIO's financial activities comply with its constitution, charity law, and best practice.  Keep trustees informed about their financial duties and responsibilities.  Participate in the recruitment, induction, and development of trustees, particularly in relation to financial matters. 

What are we looking for?

Essential Skills and Experience 

A strong commitment to the objects and values of Dementia Disco.  Significant experience in financial management, accounting, or a related field. A relevant professional qualification (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent experience.  A good understanding of charity finance, accounting principles, and SORP.  Experience of preparing budgets, financial statements, and management accounts.  Knowledge of financial controls, risk management, and internal audit.  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  Ability to explain complex financial information to non-financial trustees. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.  Experience of using accounting software and IT systems.  Knowledge of charity law and Charity Commission guidance relating to financial matters.  Strong commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion. 

  Desirable Skills and Experience 

Experience of working in the voluntary sector or with charities.  Knowledge of fundraising and income generation.  Experience of managing investments. 

  Personal Qualities 

Integrity and a commitment to acting in the best interests of the CIO.  Ability to work effectively as part of a team.  Willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to the role.  Ability to maintain confidentiality.  Good communication and interpersonal skills.
