Role Summary:

  • Providing technical advice and consultancy across all project phases of ESA projects and programmes focused on power management and distribution.
  • Participation in feasibility studies, project reviews, and procurement proposal evaluations.
  • Contribution to the agency’s technology development with defined requirements and work plans.
  • Initiation and management of R&D activities to cover both immediate and long-term needs.

Role Requirements:

  • A master's in electrical engineering or equivalent degree, with experience in early-stage power system design for space missions.
  • Demonstrated skill in power system analysis, DC/DC converter design and verification, power converter control, digital control and FPGA programming. Knowledge of GaN and SiC switches for power conversion, and modelling power conversion circuits and systems is crucial.
  • A PhD in a relevant field will be an added advantage.

The Power Management Engineer will be part of the Power Management and Distribution Section, Power Systems, EMC & Space Environment Division, Electrical Department, Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality.

The role involves providing expert technical support and consultancy to ESA projects, programmes and general studies in the field of power management and power distribution throughout all project phases. This includes participating in feasibility studies, project reviews and evaluation of procurement proposals, identifying critical development problems and assisting in their resolution.

The successful candidate will also contribute to the definition of technology development requirements and work plans for the Agency’s technology programmes, define, initiate and manage R&D activities covering both long- and short-term needs.

The candidate should have a master's in electrical engineering (or similar degree) and experience on the design of power systems at early phase stages of space missions, and the use of relevant tools. Experience of power system analysis, including power and energy budget assessment, experience of DC/DC converter design and verification, experience of power converter control, experience of digital control and FPGA programming, experience in the use of GaN and SiC switches for power conversion, experience in the use of electrical simulation tools and the modelling of power conversion circuits and systems are also required.
