The European Astronaut Centre (EAC) is a renowned space training centre for a variety of professionals. The EAC is recruiting an intern to join their Space Medicine Team, a vibrant and multicultural group that oversees medical procedures and infrastructure for astronauts. The intern's duties will include identifying and developing new space technologies, partnering with ESA teams and institutions across Member States. The role primarily focuses on improving data handling processes within the Space Medicine Team. This will contribute towards the implementation of automatic data extraction and developing educational materials pertaining to medical data management.

Role Requirements
- University students, preferably in final or second-to-last year of master’s degree in biomedical engineering, computer science or related disciplines.

- Experience with Optical Character Recognition algorithms.
- Knowledge of Postman for API handling.
- Proficiency in English or French, knowledge of another Member State language is a plus.

The European Astronaut Centre (EAC) is looking for an intern to join our Space Medicine Team (SMT). The SMT is a diverse group of professionals including medical doctors, biomedical engineers, exercise physiologists, psychologists, IT specialists, administrators and project managers. Our mission is to ensure the health and well-being of astronauts during all stages of a mission.
The role involves identifying, evaluating and developing new space technologies and procedures. This includes collaborating with ESA’s technology teams and Human Research Office to identify existing space-relevant technologies and scientific knowledge. The intern will also work with national space agencies, industry, research institutions and universities from across ESA’s Member States.
The internship will focus on the optimization of data handling processes within the Space Medicine Team. The primary objectives of the internship will be to contribute to the implementation of automatic data extraction and harmonization algorithms from medical records, develop automated workflow for data extraction and import, and support the development of educational material for the Space Medicine Team members for the topic of medical data management.
Candidates should be university students, preferably in their final or second-to-last year of a university course at Master’s level. They should have a good knowledge of English or French, and knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset. They should be pursuing a master’s degree in biomedical engineering, computer science or related disciplines, with experience in programming and machine learning. Knowledge and experience with medical data systems, experience with Optical Character Recognition algorithms, experience in developing educational material for medical or other relevant topics, and previous experience or knowledge of Postman (API platform to build and manipulate API) are also required.
