Role Summary:

  • Curator of the Theatre and Performance Collections
  • Regular involvement in the care, research, display, and interpretation of collections
  • Being an ambassador for the museum at a national and international level
  • Broad knowledge in the dance industry, particularly in tutus and Ballets Russes

Role Requirements:

  • Expert knowledge of various dance forms, companies and their historical significance
  • Contribute to policy making
  • Support fundraising and income generation activities
  • Contribution in the running of the Department of Performance, Furniture, Textiles and Fashion

The Role: We are seeking to appoint a permanent Curator of Dance (0.8 FTE). The successful candidate will be part of the team responsible for the care, research, display, and interpretation of the Theatre and Performance Collections. This role requires a strong interest in contemporary dance and a solid understanding of the history of dance in the UK, particularly with knowledge of tutus and Ballets Russes. The postholder will represent the museum at the highest level and play an active role in the field of theatre and performance both nationally and internationally.

Job Requirements: Candidates must demonstrate informed knowledge of dance forms, companies, and their historical significance. They should also contribute to policy, support fundraising/income generation, and assist in the running of the Department of Performance, Furniture, Textiles and Fashion.
