What will you be doing?
Wolverhampton Samaritans is seeking a Volunteer Treasurer Trustee to join our branch leadership team and help us continue delivering life-saving emotional support to the local community. As Treasurer, you will be responsible for maintaining an overview of the branch’s financial position, ensuring financial viability, and helping trustees make informed decisions. You’ll work closely with the Branch Director and fellow trustees, as well as our regional and national teams, to ensure good financial governance and transparency. Key Responsibilities:
Maintain oversight of the branch’s financial records and bank accounts Ensure accurate bookkeeping and preparation of end-of-year accounts Present clear financial updates and reports to the trustee board Monitor income and expenditure, and support budgeting and fundraising planning Ensure compliance with Samaritans’ financial policies and charity regulations Act as the main point of contact for financial matters
What We’re Looking For:
Experience in finance, bookkeeping, or accounting (professional qualifications welcome but not essential) Confidence using spreadsheets and accounting tools Good communication and teamwork skills A commitment to Samaritans’ values and mission to reduce suicide Willingness to volunteer a few hours a month, attend trustee meetings, and provide occasional advice outside meetings
No prior experience with Samaritans is required – full induction and ongoing support will be provided. This is a rewarding opportunity to use your financial skills to make a real difference in your local community.

This is a rewarding voluntary role for someone with experience in finance, accounting, or bookkeeping, who wants to use their skills to support a well-established and impactful local charity. Essential Skills and Experience:
Experience in financial management, bookkeeping, or accounting (a qualification such as AAT, ACCA, CIMA, or similar is helpful but not essential) Confidence using spreadsheets and accounting software Ability to produce and explain clear financial reports to the trustee board Understanding of budgets, financial controls, and charity finance (or a willingness to learn) Good organisational skills and attention to detail
Desirable Skills and Experience:
Previous experience as a treasurer or in a charity trustee role Familiarity with charity accounting standards and regulations Experience supporting fundraising or financial planning in a not-for-profit setting
