Supermassive Games is a highly acclaimed game studio notable for creating vast and immersive worlds in their games such as the BAFTA-winning Until Dawn and the multi-award-winning The Quarry. We provide a unique, exciting opportunity for potential Quality Assurance Testers to join our team.

Role Summary:

  • Work closely with development teams, executing comprehensive test plans and systematically covering all aspects of games
  • Identify, document and report any bugs, glitches, errors, or defects using bug-tracking tools
  • Perform various forms of testing, including destructive and compatibility testing across different platforms
  • Validate fixes, maintain quality benchmarks and deliver constructive feedback for continuous improvement
  • Participate in game design reviews, providing concise and insightful feedback


Role Requirements:

  • Proven experience in both manual and automated testing environments
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office applications, defect-tracking tools and systems, and bug-tracking software such as Jira
  • Meticulous problem-solving and investigative skills
  • Excellent communication skills with a passion for video games and gaming culture

We’re looking for a Quality Assurance Tester to join us here at Supermassive Games…

The Advanced Game Tester role will be a go-to person in the discipline, with a proven track record in game testing, strong analytical and communication skills, and a dedication to maintaining top-quality gameplay experiences.

Heres a snippet of what youll be up to:

  • Support development teams by rigorously testing new features as they’re implemented, ensuring daily build stability across PC and console platforms
  • Accurately identify, document and report bugs, glitches, errors, or defects using bug-tracking tools while maintaining database integrity
  • Execute detailed and comprehensive test plans, test cases, and test scripts to systematically cover all aspects of the game
  • Validate implemented fixes and perform regression testing across all platforms to confirm that previous issues are resolved and new updates have not introduced new problems
  • Perform destructive testing across all platforms to identify edge cases and potential points of failure by intentionally causing errors and unexpected behaviours
  • Maintain high-quality standards throughout the testing phases, ensuring all releases meet or exceed set quality benchmarks
  • Track, verify, and validate bug fixes and game updates to monitor overall game quality throughout development cycles
  • Conduct compatibility testing across various platforms and devices to ensure a consistent player experience
  • Continuously improve testing protocols, processes and tools to enhance overall efficiency and effectiveness
  • Ensure all test documentation is organised, up-to-date, and easily accessible to relevant team members
  • Accurately document identified bugs, including necessary information and evidence, ensuring thorough record-keeping
  • Maintain accurate records of testing activities and results to support audit and compliance requirements
  • Provide detailed feedback and suggestions on game design, features, mechanics, graphics, sound, and user interface
  • Prepare comprehensive test plans, test cases, and reports to provide transparency and context to relevant stakeholders
  • Track and report advanced testing metrics and KPIs to monitor progress and highlight areas for improvement
  • Perform usability testing and support user research as required to gather feedback from users
  • Work closely with designers, programmers, and other team members to ensure efficient resolution of issues. Proactively providing all relevant information to assist in problem-solving
  • Participate in game design reviews and provide constructive criticism and feedback as requested
  • Foster open communication and knowledge sharing within the team and across disciplines
  • Act as a go-to person within the QA team, providing guidance and support to junior and mid-level testers
  • Mentor team members to enhance their skills and knowledge

Requirements

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience in both manual and automated testing environments
  • Extensive experience testing games on both PC and console, utilising accurate documentation and instructions
  • Ability to execute structured test plans, particularly smoke and regression tests
  • Proficient in various testing techniques, including functional, regression, destructive, and compatibility testing
  • Excellent knowledge of game testing methodologies, tools and best practices, including GDKs such as Xbox Manager and Target Manager
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office applications, defect-tracking tools and systems, and bug-tracking software (e.g., Jira)
  • Deep knowledge of game development processes and lifecycles
  • Proven experience in game testing or quality assurance roles, with a portfolio of tested games demonstrating expertise and contributions
  • Ability to take initiative and proactively identify potential issues or areas for improvement
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective bug reporting and collaboration
  • Detail-oriented mindset with exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and investigative skills
  • High degree of self-motivation, with the ability to perform under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Team player with the flexibility to adapt to changing priorities, working equally well both alone and in a team environment
  • Passion for video games and gaming culture, with a profound understanding of what constitutes a great gaming experience from both the player's perspective and overall gameplay
