The British Museum, a world-renowned institution that fuses history, culture, and innovation, is looking for a Client Project Manager for its Estates and Capital Projects department. You'll be given the chance to lead significant projects, such as the Energy Centre Programme and the Western Range project, within an inimitable Grade I listed setting.

Role Summary:

  • Manage and deliver Museum capital construction projects.
  • Follow best practice project management standards and the Museum’s Project Management methodology.
  • Develop, manage and coordinate internal and external project stakeholder teams.
  • Liaise with and manage external consultants and suppliers.


Role Requirements:

  • PRINCE2 or similar project management qualification is expected.
  • Candidates should be Members of a Built Environment Professional Body or Association or working towards it.
  • Must have experience delivering capital or construction projects within a complex organization.
  • Track record in procurement and contract management.

The British Museum is seeking a Client Project Manager to oversee major capital projects within our iconic Grade I listed building. This role is crucial for leading high-profile construction and infrastructure projects as part of the Estates and Capital Projects department. You will be involved in various projects including our Energy Centre Programme and the redevelopment of the Western Range project. From Masterplan developments to essential building and MEP upgrades, your role will ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high standard, all while keeping the Museum open to millions of visitors each year.

The role: As a Client Project Manager, you will manage and deliver Museum capital construction projects according to best practice project management standards, the RIBA Plan of Work, and using the Museum’s Project Management methodology, from inception to completion and final handover to the Client. You will develop, manage, and coordinate internal and external project stakeholder teams in support of projects. Additionally, you will procure the services of, liaise with, and/or manage external consultants and suppliers ensuring that proposed procurement strategies satisfy the Museum procurement rules.

Job requirements: The ideal candidate will have a PRINCE2 or similar project management qualification ideally with Membership of (or working towards) a Built Environment Professional Body or Association. Proven experience delivering capital or construction projects within a public institution or similar large, complex organisation is essential. You should also have demonstrable procurement and contract management experience, ideally within a museum or heritage organisation.
