Writing clear, compelling grant applications Researching and tracking suitable funding opportunities Supporting the creation of simple impact reports for funders
You’ll work closely with Kylie, our founder, who has a background in the justice sector and leads our mission to create real second chances for young people through coffee, connection, and community. You’ll also be supported by Kylie and Myles (MD) This role is flexible—we’re happy to shape it around your strengths, interests, and availability. If you believe in grassroots change and want to help us unlock funding that truly transforms lives, we’d love to hear from you.
What are we looking for?
We’re looking for a volunteer who is passionate about social justice and eager to help us secure vital funding that supports young people at risk or with lived experience of the justice system. While previous grant writing experience is valuable, it is not essential. What matters most is strong writing ability, a keen eye for detail, and a commitment to our mission. Skills and Experience:
Excellent written communication skills: able to craft clear, persuasive, and compelling grant applications and fundraising proposals. Research skills: comfortable identifying and tracking suitable trusts, foundations, and funding opportunities aligned with our work and values. Basic understanding of fundraising processes, grant cycles, and reporting requirements is helpful but not essential. Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) or Google Workspace tools. Ability to interpret data and impact metrics to support reporting. Comfortable working remotely and independently while keeping open communication with the team.
Personal Qualities:
Passion for social change, particularly in supporting people impacted by the justice system. Empathy and respect for the lived experience of our participants and colleagues. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and deadlines. Proactive and self-motivated with the ability to manage your time effectively. Open to feedback and willing to learn and adapt as needed. Collaborative mindset—able to work well with a small, passionate team including people with lived experience of the justice sector.
What You’ll Gain:
Valuable experience in fundraising and grant writing within the social enterprise and justice sectors. Insight into trauma-informed, holistic approaches to youth support and social justice. The chance to contribute meaningfully to a grassroots organisation that creates second chances. Flexible volunteering that respects your schedule and commitments.
We’re committed to creating an inclusive and supportive environment where your skills and passion can flourish. If you want to help us unlock the funding we need to expand our programmes and open a dedicated training café, enabling us to support more young people into employment, we’d love to hear from you.
What difference will you make?
Your support will directly help us sustain and grow our work with young people at risk or with lived experience of the justice system. By securing funding, you’ll enable us to continue delivering trauma-informed barista training, holistic mental health support, and real employment opportunities through our social enterprise. Your input will also support our vision to open a dedicated training café—a safe, inclusive space where young people can gain real-world experience, build confidence, and connect with their community. This will allow us to support more young people through our programmes and help them progress into meaningful employment. Every successful grant you help secure will be a step toward transforming lives and building a sustainable future for a grassroots organisation rooted in justice-sector experience.
