Role Summary

  • As a Senior Funding Manager, you will play a crucial role in supporting Wellcome’s Strategic Programmes, particularly in mental health, infectious disease, and climate & health.
  • Responsible for coordinating the planning and processing of Wellcome’s Directed Funding activities.
  • Collaborative work with colleagues across the organisation to pursue operational excellence, ensuring consistency of practice to achieve our strategic funding objectives.

Role Requirements

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant science, medical humanities, social science or public health subject.
  • Previous experience in a Funding Manager or similar role, within the academic research environment.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to rapidly build and maintain trust across all levels of seniority.
  • Superb organisational skills, capable of prioritising large workloads to meet deadlines.

We plan to spend £16bn over the next ten years, funding new discoveries in life, health, and wellbeing, and taking on three global health challenges: mental health, infectious disease and climate and health.

As a senior level Funding Manager you will provide key business partner support and expertise to Wellcome’s Mental Health, Infectious Disease and Climate & Health Strategic Programmes, to ensure the coordinated planning, and processing of Wellcome’s Directed Funding activities. This will involve working collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation to ensure operational excellence and consistency of practice towards helping Wellcome achieve its strategic funding objectives.

Minimum Criteria: Educated to at least degree/equivalent level in a relevant science, medical humanities, social science or public health subject. Previous experience as a Funding Manager or similar role and experience of the academic research environment. Robust stakeholder management skills – ability to quickly build and maintain the trust of internal and external stakeholders at all levels of seniority. Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage large workloads and work to deadlines.
