What will you be doing?

Off the Curriculum is an educational charity inspiring 16–18 year olds in Lambeth and Southwark to thrive. Through innovative mentoring, we help students pursue projects beyond the national curriculum, nurturing curiosity, confidence, and cultural insight. We work with brilliant volunteers to connect students with role models and new ideas — both online and in person. Registered Charity No. 1196701 Hours of Work: Flexible — approx. 2–4 hours per week over 3–6 months, depending on experience and project pace. Location: Remote, with optional in-person collaboration. Length of Role: 3–6 month project-based volunteer role with opportunity to stay on in an advisory capacity.

What are we looking for?

As OTC begins employing staff and contracting external mentors, the regulatory bar rises. You will help us meet the standards required by the Charity Commission, funders, employment law, and good safeguarding practice. Key responsibilities include:

Audit and update OTC’s internal policies and procedures (e.g. safeguarding, data protection, health & safety, whistleblowing, etc.) Support trustees to maintain compliance with the Charity Commission guidance Develop a simple compliance calendar (e.g. policy review cycles, DBS renewal timelines, insurance checks) Coordinate with our HR and Safeguarding volunteers to ensure all staff and volunteers meet legal requirements Help establish basic risk management frameworks and registers Provide insight into how compliance affects grant applications, employment law, and delivery

Essential:

Experience in charity governance, policy, legal, risk, safeguarding, or related compliance field Confidence reviewing policy documents and spotting risk Strong organisational and documentation skills A diplomatic, pragmatic approach to enforcing accountability

Desirable:

Legal background or experience in regulated environments Familiarity with GDPR, Charity Commission guidance, or youth-sector safeguarding Previous work with community organisations or small charities
