What will you be doing?
Key responsibilities include:
Developing and implementing a diverse range of sports programmes aligned with our mission and needs Leading a team of sports volunteers and coaches to deliver high-quality sessions Organising tournaments, leagues, and events that encourage participation, inclusion, and community spirit Creating a safe, inclusive, and motivating environment for all participants Working closely with youth leaders, families, and community partners to increase engagement and support Monitoring outcomes and adapting programmes to ensure maximum impact Representing the organisation at events, meetings, and within relevant networks
What are we looking for?
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic volunteer to serve as the Head of Sports Programmes, leading the strategic and day-to-day development of youth sports and physical activity initiatives. This is a key leadership role that combines planning, mentoring, and hands-on engagement, all rooted in a passion for youth empowerment and community building through sport. The ideal candidate will bring experience in sports coaching, youth engagement, or programme management. You will have the creativity to design inclusive and inspiring sports sessions, and the leadership to manage a team of volunteers or coaches. Your approach should focus on participation, personal development, and social connection, rather than competition alone. Key Skills and Experience
Strong background in sports coaching, physical education, or community sport delivery Experience working with young people, preferably in a community or youth development setting Proven ability to plan and deliver inclusive, engaging, and structured sports sessions Ability to manage and motivate a team of volunteers or assistant coaches Good organisational and communication skills Confidence working with diverse communities and young people from a range of backgrounds Basic safeguarding awareness and understanding of youth welfare best practices
Desirable (but not essential):
Relevant coaching qualifications or certifications (e.g. FA Level 1/2, UK Coaching Certificates) Experience organising community sports events or tournaments Knowledge of monitoring and evaluating youth programmes First aid certification
