Cool Earth is an international non-profit organization dedicated to protecting tropical rainforests by supporting the communities living within them. With over 15 years of experience, we work closely with indigenous peoples and local communities in the Amazon, Congo, and Papua New Guinea, providing direct funding, data tools, and collaborative support to empower local actions and resilience in the face of climate change. Our mission is to support indigenous peoples living in the most threatened rainforests by offering flexible financial resources, culturally relevant data, and appropriate technology. This approach promotes local autonomy and decision-making, ensuring conservation efforts align with community priorities and knowledge. The Data Forest Program, launched in 2022 in Peru, aims to eliminate barriers faced by indigenous peoples and local communities in accessing critical spatial information. This information is vital for combating deforestation and climate change. The program provides direct resources such as monetary transfers, access to relevant data, and technology to strengthen monitoring and territorial management efforts. The program is structured around three key objectives: creating local knowledge centers for community-led forest protection and monitoring; supporting the generation of spatial data and territorial analysis methodologies; and fostering community-generated data to adapt to local climate variability. It includes projects like the Forest Laboratories, PAAMARI, and SAT CARE, in collaboration with the Central Asháninka del Río Ene (CARE). Additional activities involve generating impact indicators on forest health, climate mitigation and adaptation, and fire prevention awareness. The role of the Gerente del Programa de Data Forestal involves leading and managing the implementation of the program in Peru, working closely with key partners and stakeholders. You will oversee a team based in Peru, coordinate with the global Cool Earth team, and ensure the program's growth and scalability. Responsibilities include designing plans and budgets, managing relationships with partners, and supporting reporting to donors. You will also contribute to the organization’s global strategy, participate in monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) frameworks, and assist in fundraising efforts through proposal development. Ensuring compliance with safety and safeguarding protocols is essential, along with fostering a culture of inclusion and diversity. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of project management experience in conservation, with a strong background in working with indigenous communities. Knowledge of Peruvian conservation context, leadership skills, and experience building respectful relationships with indigenous organizations are required. Willingness to travel to remote Amazonian areas, excellent communication skills in Spanish and English, and a genuine commitment to the organization’s mission are essential. Experience with spatial data analysis, satellite imagery, or environmental monitoring is a plus. Cool Earth is committed to equal opportunity employment, valuing diversity and inclusion. We maintain strict safeguarding policies to protect the rights and safety of indigenous and local communities involved in our work. Benefits include employment from day one with full legal benefits, flexible working policies, and a positive work environment. Interested applicants are encouraged to apply promptly, as the organization reserves the right to close the recruitment process early once a suitable candidate is found.
