The role involves working within the Secure Connectivity Department, specifically in the Secure Connectivity System Validation Section. You will be responsible for supporting the development, qualification, and validation of the EU Secure Connectivity governmental infrastructure and related services. This position plays a crucial part in ensuring the successful deployment and operation of secure satellite communication systems that are vital for governmental and commercial applications.
As a key member of our team, you will help manage engineering activities aligned with ESA’s role as the Qualification and Validation Authority for the IRIS² project. Your responsibilities will include ensuring the system complies with mission and system requirements, overseeing verification and qualification activities at both segment and system levels, and monitoring space and ground segment qualification efforts. You will also supervise system integration and qualification programs, focusing on end-to-end validation of space-ground interfaces and external critical interfaces such as GOVSATCOM.
Your role will involve defining and implementing plans for in-orbit validation, supporting service validation reviews, and coordinating with various internal and external stakeholders including the European Commission and EUSPA. You will develop and manage tools to support qualification activities, continuously monitor system status, and respond promptly to anomalies or non-conformances. Additionally, you will contribute to the IRIS² roadmap, manage project risks, and provide regular reports to project management.
Candidates should have a master’s degree in physics, engineering, or a relevant scientific field, along with experience in developing, deploying, and qualifying large-scale distributed systems with security components. Knowledge of satellite communication systems, protocols, and space qualification standards is essential. Strong problem-solving, organizational, and results-oriented skills are required, with experience in managing industrial activities and large-scale system testing campaigns being highly desirable. Experience working with commercial telecommunications or in projects with a security dimension will be considered an asset.
