Supporting Healthcare Heroes UK (SHH-UK) is the only UK-wide charity dedicated to standing shoulder-to-shoulder with healthcare workers. Founded in 2023, SHH-UK is committed to preventing Covid and supporting those living with Long Covid. We are a driving force in influencing national policy and delivering meaningful support to healthcare professionals impacted by this condition. We are looking for dedicated volunteer Research Summary Creators to play a vital role in bridging the gap between complex academic research and the wider community. This role is flexible, requiring only 2-3 hours per week and involves close collaboration with our Trustee leads for Content. Key Responsibilities:
Reviewing and summarising research papers related to Long Covid. Translating technical and scientific information into clear, engaging summaries suitable for a lay audience. Submitting high-quality summaries for publication on the SHH-UK website.
What We’re Looking For:
Academic Expertise: Experience reviewing, critiquing, and summarizing research papers. Communication Skills: Ability to convey complex ideas clearly and effectively to a non-specialist audience. Commitment to SHH-UK’s Mission: Passion for supporting healthcare workers and contributing to our vision. Collaboration: Strong teamwork skills and the ability to work constructively with SHH-UK’s content team. Time Management: Reliability to meet the 2-3 hour per week commitment.
This role offers a unique opportunity to directly contribute to the well-being of healthcare professionals by ensuring they have access to clear and concise information. Your work will make a significant difference, both in supporting those affected by Long Covid and informing the wider community.
What are we looking for?
Experience reviewing and critiquing research papers in an academic context. Experience in summarising research for a lay audience. A commitment to SHH-UK’s mission and vision. Willingness to meet the minimum time requirement. A team player: Enjoy working as part of a team. Communication Skills: Effectively collaborate with team members and convey information about relevant research clearly.
What difference will you make?
The Research Summary Creator role at SHH-UK offers an opportunity to contribute to a meaningful cause by supporting healthcare workers affected by Long Covid. Your work as a Research Summary Creator will have a significant impact by:
Making Research Accessible: By summarizing complex academic studies into clear and concise content, you will enable healthcare workers, policymakers, and the public to better understand the latest advancements in Long Covid research. Your summaries will help demystify scientific findings, making critical information accessible to everyone, regardless of their expertise. Supporting Healthcare Workers: Long Covid has deeply affected healthcare professionals who often prioritize others’ well-being over their own. Your efforts will provide them with essential, digestible information to better manage their health, advocate for their needs, and access appropriate support. Shaping National Policy: SHH-UK plays a vital role in influencing policies affecting healthcare workers. The research summaries you create will contribute to our advocacy efforts by ensuring decision-makers have accurate, up-to-date insights into the realities of Long Covid. Educating and Empowering Communities: Clear, reliable information is crucial for awareness and action. Your contributions will help foster understanding and solidarity across communities, encouraging collective efforts to address the challenges of Long Covid.
By dedicating just 2-3 hours a week, you will directly support healthcare workers, inform critical discussions, and amplify SHH-UK’s ability to drive change.
