What will you be doing?
General responsibilities: To assist the Treasurer
To assist so that the organisation complies with its governing document, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations. To assist in ensuring that the organisation pursues its objects as defined in its governing document. To assist in ensuring the organisation applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objects (the charity must not spend money on activities which are not included in its own objects, no matter how worthwhile or charitable those activities are). To contribute actively to the board of trustees' role by assisting in giving firm strategic direction to the organisation, setting overall policy, defining goals and setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets. To safeguard the good name and values of the organisation. To ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation. o To ensure the financial stability of the organisation. If the charity employs staff, to assist in appointing Team Leader and Staff when required and monitor their performance. In addition to the above statutory duties, each trustee should use any specific skills, knowledge or experience they have to help the board of trustees reach sound decisions. This may involve:
a) Scrutinising board papers b) Leading discussions c) Focusing on key issues d) Providing guidance on new initiatives e) Other issues in which the trustee has special expertise

Financial qualifications and experience Some experience of charity finance, fundraising and pension schemes The skills to analyse proposals and examine their financial consequences Preparedness to make unpopular recommendations to the board Willingness to be available to staff for advice and enquiries on an ad hoc basis Commitment to the organisation Willingness to devote the necessary time and effort Strategic vision Good, independent judgement Ability to think creatively Willingness to speak their mind Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship Ability to work effectively as a member of a team
What difference will you make?
Life Education East Midlands is a leading Health and Wellbeing charity made up our CEO, staff of 8 employed Educators/Tutors, 3 Admin Staff. We currently have Volunteers taking the role :- 7 Trustee's Our core activity is providing Health and Wellbeing educational services to Primary Schools in Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Lincolnshire Leicestershire and Northamptonshire by educating children to make healthy choices, with specialised workshops relating to Health and Wellbeing, Drug & Alcohol Abuse, Internet Abuse, Relationship Education, Mental Health Wellbeing, these services are provided by our trained specialist educators currently by going into school classes, using our Pop-up classrooms or by virtual delivery. Our overall costs in running the charity is £320,000 per year, the income is derived from contracts with schools, fundraising. In additional services provide Parenting Skills Courses for Nottingham City Family Learning and the County in partnership with Inspire Learning. In addition we promote SCARF a whole-school approach to building these essential foundations – through comprehensive Personal, Social, Health and Economic education (PSHE) crucial for children to achieve their best, academically and socially. In these days of budget cutbacks we are increasingly having to provide subsidies to schools to continue accessing our services. Careful managements of our income and reserves is essential to the well-being of the Charity. We passionately believe that Children in our community are our future and the Charity continues to work to its Aims and Objectives to help children to reach their potential.
