Join an exciting global team as an Engagement Analyst. This role is remote, based in Japan, and is an integral part of the Japan Regional Team, supporting policy research/development, partnership building, stakeholder engagement, and capacity development.

Role Summary:
• Work closely with the Japan Lead on coordinating activities and engagements.
• Take on briefings and support ‘Japan Lead’ in external and internal engagements.
• Summarize technical content on sustainable finance and the transition to net zero.
• Support policy research and contribute to policy development.
• Coordinate projects aligned with Climate Bonds/Resilience Bond certification and transition finance frameworks.
• Design, organize workshops, seminars, and develop capacity-building materials.

Role Requirements:
• Degree in related field (Environmental Economics, Sustainable Finance, Environmental Policy).
• Experience in research/advisory role in a relevant field.
• Demonstratable experience of providing actionable insights.
• Proficient in English and Japanese.
• Ability to handle high volume of tasks at good pace.
• Strong attention to detail and quality delivery.
• Strong team work and communication skills.
• Desired: Policy experience in a relevant field, ability to handle complex data, strong PowerPoint and presentation skills.

Purpose:

This Engagement Analystwill support the work of the Japan Team with a strong focus on policy research/development, partnership building and capacity development while also contributing to communications, research and project management. It requires both technical understanding of sustainable finance, climate change and the ability to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.

The position contributes to the Japan Team’s mission to mobilize capital for climate action, advance sustainable finance policies, and strengthen Japan’s leadership in the green and transition finance landscape. Key responsibilities include providing input on policy frameworks, managing stakeholder engagement, and leading capacity-building initiatives, ensuring that activities are holistic, impactful, and aligned with international standards.

Areas of Focus:

  • Working with Japan Lead to coordinate activities and prioritise the engagements (i.e. meetings, presentations, speeches) that require support;
  • Taking on responsibility for briefings and supporting the Japan Lead in external and internal engagements
  • Assessing and summarising technical content in a decision-useful way, in the areas of sustainable finance and the transition to net zero more broadly as well as provide (regular) updates as and when requested;
  • Providing policy research and contributing to policy development support

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Supporting engagement opportunities in Japan by building and maintaining relationships with government agencies, financial institutions, and private sector stakeholders, and by coordinate with partners to align projects with Climate Bonds/ Resilience Bond certification and transition finance frameworks.
  • Design, organize, and facilitate workshops, seminars, and training sessions, and develop capacity-building materials and knowledge-sharing events.
  • Responsibility for briefings and supporting the Japan Lead, in their engagements, including:
  • Preparing and coordinating briefings to support the Japan Lead’s engagements, including gathering content from subject-matter experts across the organization;
  • Providing required research for briefings where necessary.
  • Preparing meeting agenda’s, presentations and speaking notes.
  • Assessing and summarising technical content in a decision-useful way, in the areas of sustainable finance and the transition to net zero more broadly, as well as provide (regular) updates as and when requested. This includes:
  • Conducting high-quality research on topics such as policy and market reports relating to climate finance, and the broader transition to net zero – and providing structured, useful and actionable summaries to the Japan Lead/team.
  • Supporting the Japan Lead in drafting written pieces for different publication formats and stakeholders.
  • Providing updates on key relevant issues when required.
  • Conduct policy research and contribute to policy development including:
  • Supporting the Japan Lead by providing data and insight, summarising various reports to generate integrated data and support policy development.
  • Support the design and implementation of sustainable finance policies, guideline and frameworks, and provide advisory input on energy policies and sustainable finance regulations and guidelines.
  • Assist with coordinating project timelines, deliverables, and stakeholder inputs, and monitor activities to ensure alignment with organizational objectives.

Requirements

Essential:

  • Degree in relevant subject such as (Environmental) Economics, (Sustainable) Finance or (Environmental) policy
  • Experience in research and/ or advisory role in a relevant field
  • Demonstratable experience of providing actionable insights from research, especially to senior colleagues
  • Commitment to confidentiality, able to manage and process information with discretion and confidentiality
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and work at pace across a wide variety of topics
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, excellent command of English and Japanese
  • Business Development and Stakeholder Management experience
  • Strong attention to detail and focus on high-quality delivery
  • Ability to understand, support and navigate the organisation
  • Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment, and evolving priorities
  • Team work and communication skills
  • Location: based in Japan

Desirable:

  • Policy experience in a relevant field would be a plus
  • Ability to handle and synthesize complex data
  • Strong PowerPoint and presentation skills
