The British Museum is excited to offer the position of Assistant Collection Manager in the Money and Medals Department. This role provides a unique opportunity to support the care, access, and use of one of the world's most significant numismatic collections. As an Assistant Collection Manager, you will be integral to the daily management of the collection, ensuring the safe storage, movement, display, and accessibility of objects for loans, exhibitions, study rooms, and research. Over the next year, the role will focus on loan and exhibition activities, collections audits, and storage and display projects, particularly supporting the Enlightenment Gallery and Money Gallery. You will also participate in courier trips, study room supervision, and behind-the-scenes projects that enhance public access and scholarship.
You should be practical, organized, and detail-focused, with a strong interest in museum collections and material culture. Experience in handling, moving, and installing collections in a museum, gallery, or similar environment is essential. You will be expected to support loans and exhibitions, assist with collections audits, and contribute to the display and maintenance of galleries. Working closely with the preventative conservation team, you will help mitigate collection risks and apply best practices in handling and storage.
