About LearnJam
LearnJam is a small learning consultancy with a big purpose - we’re exploring the role of learning for liberation.
We partner with organisations working toward social and environmental equity, justice, and interconnected liberation. With over 10 years of experience, we help to embed (un)learning design where it can support the change they want to see in the world.
In practice, this can include connecting learning to organisational strategy; designing and facilitating research to understand the conditions that shape learning and change; defining a learning philosophy or principles; creating new learning experiences, or reimagining existing ones; and helping to measure impact and learning.
Recent projects include:
- Evaluating and reimagining English language teaching in Palestine
- Developing a learning concept for an alternative economics course
- Creating online training for NGO teachers
- Redesigning DEI guidelines so students see themselves in their learning
LearnJam is set up as a not-for-profit Community Interest Company (CIC). We currently have two Directors:
- Jo Sayers - leading on ‘Doing Work’ as our main point of contact on all projects
- Rebecca Thornton - leading on ‘Making it Work’ through strategy, operations, and inner work
We operate with a ‘flat’ organisational structure; shifting away from hierarchy in pursuit of empowered team members collaborating and making decisions together.
We have defined six ‘We-Statements’ that guide the inner and outer work we do.
The role
We’re looking for someone to help us run LearnJam, with a focus on ‘Winning Work’. Essentially, this is a business development and sales role - but guided by purpose and values rather than profit and growth.
As a not-for-profit CIC, we exist within capitalism while also seeking to challenge it. We believe in putting our purpose and people above revenue, while also recognising the need to earn enough to sustain ourselves and our work. We’re seeking someone that can navigate this tension with us.
We’re looking for someone who can not only shape strategy but put it into action. You will help us attract the right partners and projects by sharing our purpose and practice, responding to opportunities as they arise, and actively building and nurturing meaningful relationships.
This person will work closely with Jo and Rebecca on organisational strategy, helping ensure that the ‘Doing Work’, ‘Winning Work’ and ‘Making it Work’ areas of the organisation are pulling in the same direction, and bringing positive impact to our community.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement an outreach strategy to grow LearnJam’s network and impact
- Bring your existing network of contacts, especially in changemaker, social impact, or progressive learning spaces
- Help us understand what kinds of organisations we would love to work with, and make meaningful connection with them
- Explore opportunities for funding and grant income for projects and initiatives
- Experiment with new approaches to connecting with organisations, assessing what to continue, adapt, or stop
- Track and prioritise possible project opportunities based on their financial and impact value to LearnJam
- Contribute to strategic decisions, business development, and shaping LearnJam’s direction alongside Jo and Rebecca
We are looking for someone who…
- Shares our commitment to interconnected liberation
- Has experience in business development, ideally within learning, social impact, or changemaker space
- Brings an existing network that can create opportunities for LearnJam to make meaningful impact
- Understands or is curious about ‘Teal’ organisations (see, ‘Reinventing Organizations’ by Frédéric Laloux) and purpose-driven business models
- Combines strategic thinking with action - comfortable experimenting, evaluating, and adapting
- Has a gift for relationship building, listening and sensing
