We're Climate Bonds, an international organization committed to mobilizing capital for a greener future. We're seeking a Senior Policy Manager in Japan, a role pivotal to fostering senior government collaboration and accelerating energy transition goals. You'll be representing us through:

  • Leading our policy initiatives across diverse sectors such as energy, manufacturing, finance regulations and climate policy.
  • Creating high-quality policy materials that support our transition goals.
  • Identifying strategic opportunities within the Japanese policy-making process and contributing to policy development.
  • Navigating political complexities, advising institutions, and effectively coordinating with regional leads for cohesive stakeholder engagement.
  • Establishing productive network with key stakeholders, inclusive of government entities, regulatory bodies, and industry organisations.

How you'll contribute

  • Lead policy representation across Japan for projects in energy, manufacturing, economic transition financing, sustainable finance regulations, and climate policies.
  • Design and disseminate high-quality and relevant policy materials for the transition agenda.
  • Identify and actively pursue opportunities within the Japanese policy-making process, leveraging established networks and fostering relationships with decision-makers, to contribute meaningfully to the development and implementation of policies that align with our goals.
  • Navigate the complexities of the political landscape and seize strategic opportunities that arise in the course of policy discussions and formulation, advising domestic institutions to align finance with net-zero pathways.
  • Work closely and coordinate effectively with the Regional Lead to ensure that our approach to stakeholder engagement is cohesive, strategically aligned, and leverages existing relationships.
  • Focus on building and nurturing strong, productive networks with a diverse range of stakeholders, including government entities, regulatory bodies, and industry organisations, to create a supportive ecosystem for transition finance.

Requirements

You should apply if:

You're passionate about our work and the mission of Climate Bonds!

  • You have in-depth knowledge and experience of Japan’s energy, finance, and industry policy landscape. 
  • You are a clear and concise native-level Japanese speaker who is also confident communicating in English, including strong writing skills. 
  • You have an existing network with key government and financial stakeholders (e.g., METI, MoE, JFSA, JICA) and can quickly develop relationships with new market actors and policy makers
  • You have multiple years experience of the Japanese policy-making process, with proven ability to identify and leverage influential points of engagement. 
  • You have a track record of policy development, advocacy, or advisory roles in climate, finance, or energy. 
  • Are comfortable representing Climate Bonds in high-level policy or public forums.
