The Degrees Initiative, a UK-based NGO, is seeking a Volunteer Trustee with significant financial expertise to join our board. This role is crucial for guiding our dynamic charity, which focuses on climate change and global development, particularly evaluating solar radiation modification (SRM).
About the Degrees Initiative: We are dedicated to empowering the Global South to conduct their own research and play a central role in SRM discussions. Founded in 2021, our charity has grown to about 20 staff members and has received worldwide recognition for its work.
The Role: As a Volunteer Trustee, you will provide strategic leadership and governance, ensuring the financial health of the charity alongside the Treasurer. Responsibilities include overseeing annual financial planning, monitoring budgets, approving financial statements, and advising on financial resources and investment policies. This role requires attendance at quarterly board meetings, with one annual meeting requiring travel, expenses for which are covered by the charity.
Qualifications: Essential qualifications include a finance or accounting professional background with at least 10 years of post-qualification experience in the UK and an accounting qualification (ACA/ACCA/CIMA/CIPFA or equivalent). Familiarity with charity governance and non-profit structures is required, along with a clear understanding of financial management and reporting.
To Apply: Interested candidates should submit a CV and answer application questions by 5 February 2026. We encourage applications from under-represented communities in the climate, science, and development sectors.
