The Degrees Initiative, a UK-based NGO, is seeking a Policy Engagement Manager for Africa. This role is crucial for our mission to strengthen the capacity of the Global South to evaluate solar radiation modification (SRM), a controversial climate change mitigation proposal. We are neutral on the use of SRM but advocate for informed decision-making in the Global South.

The role: As the Policy Engagement Manager, you will enhance the Global South's voice in SRM research and governance discussions relevant to Africa. Your responsibilities will include connecting African policy actors with local SRM experts, supporting the development of a coordinated community of experts, and fostering policy-science dialogues. You will also contribute to our policy engagement strategy and support various programmatic activities.

Job requirements: Candidates should have an advanced degree in relevant natural or social sciences or equivalent professional experience, with at least 10 years of experience in climate change science and policy, global development, or multilateral diplomacy, particularly in Africa. Exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills are essential, along with the ability to communicate complex scientific information to non-academic audiences. Proficiency in English and existing eligibility to work in the UK or Africa are required.

Benefits: This fully remote position offers the flexibility to work from anywhere in the UK or Africa, provided you have the right to work in your location. For UK-based staff, benefits include an 8% employer pension contribution and 25 days of annual leave plus public holidays. Similar benefits are offered to Africa-based staff, adjusted according to local standards.
