The Degrees Initiative, a UK-based NGO, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Development Manager to expand and diversify funding and drive the growth of the organization. The organization focuses on climate change and scientific capacity building in the Global South, particularly in evaluating solar radiation modification (SRM) geoengineering. SRM is a controversial proposal for reducing some impacts of climate change by reflecting sunlight away from the Earth. Degrees is neutral on whether SRM should ever be used but advocates for the empowerment of the Global South to conduct their own research and play a central role in SRM discussions. The initiative has been operational for over a decade, receiving worldwide coverage and acclaim.
The role involves deepening and managing relationships with existing funders and bringing in new donors and partners to diversify the funding base. The Development Manager will report to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and work closely with senior staff and the Chair of the Trustees. This position offers a fantastic opportunity for the right candidate to increase the capacity of a field-leading charity, help empower researchers in the Global South, and contribute to one of the world’s most important climate debates.
Job requirements include at least ten years' experience in fundraising or relevant experience, a proven background of working with six- and seven-figure donors, and a track record of securing income from a variety of funders. Strong organizational and project management skills are essential, along with experience in organizing events and writing grant proposals. The successful candidate must have the legal right to work in the UK and be comfortable in a dynamic, remote start-up environment.
Benefits of working at Degrees include the opportunity to contribute to a high-impact issue, a fully remote role within the United Kingdom, an 8% employer pension contribution, opportunities for international travel, 25 days of annual leave plus UK public holidays, and a personal development budget of £1,000 per year.
