bit.bio is an innovative biotech company from the University of Cambridge, where we're combining synthetic and stem cell biology to engineer human cells that will pave the way for future medicine. We're seeking a Web Developer to lead the development of our website into a commercial and ecommerce-enabled platform, a role which includes being the primary architect for our HubSpot CMS, building custom modules, and enhancing customer journeys.

Role Summary:

  • Lead technical development of the website
  • Build and maintain secure login areas
  • Ensure maximum site visibility
  • Collaborate with Bioinformatics team and external developers

Role Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Web Development, Software Engineering, or a related field
  • Demonstrated expertise in web development and CMS architecture
  • Experience with HTML5, CSS/SASS, JavaScript (ES6+), Git
  • Understanding of security basics and encryption.
  • Experience with HubSpot CMS, ecommerce workflows, and APIs
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Possibly HubSpot CRM certified, able to read/write Python scripts, SQL, PHP experience

Type: Full time, 12 month fixed term contract / Start: Immediate

Salary: Competitive / Hours: 40 p/w

Office (Cambridge) based role with hybrid working available

This fixed-term contract is tied to project-based work and will run for the duration of the project.

Your role in our team:

We are hiring a Web Developer (12 month FTC) to lead the technical development of our website as it evolves into a high-performance, commercial & ecommerce-enabled platform. The role will serve as the primary architect for our HubSpot CMS, building custom modules, templates and advanced integrations across CRM and Marketing Hub to support commercial and marketing objectives enabling better customer journeys and measurable impact.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Act as the primary architect for our HubSpot CMS, building custom modules, templates, and advanced workflows that integrate deeply with our CRM and Marketing Hub.
  • Build and maintain secure login areas and "My Account" functionalities to provide a personalised experience for commercial partners.
  • Translate design mockups into responsive, high-speed web pages with a focus on conversion rate optimisation (CRO).
  • Maintain site health, speed and schema markup to ensure maximum visibility in a competitive biotech landscape.
  • Collaborate with the Bioinformatics team to ensure the website can effectively surface and visualise complex biological data, utilising Python where necessary.
  • Cooperate with external web developers to ensure seamless delivery of projects.

  • Will hold a minimum Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Web Development, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Demonstrable work experience demonstrating advanced web development and CMS architecture expertise.

With essential experience in…

  • Proven experience building complex sites using HubL (HubSpot Markup Language), custom modules, and DB/Object schemas within HubSpot.
  • Expert-level HTML5, CSS/SASS, and modern JavaScript (ES6+).
  • Experience implementing and customising ecommerce workflows (e.g., HubSpot Payments, Stripe integrations, or complex B2B "Request a Quote" systems).
  • Strong experience connecting web front-ends to external APIs and managing data flow between the CRM and third-party tools.
  • Proficiency with Git and managing deployment workflows in a solo environment.
  • Strong understanding of security basics, encryption where required, following industry best-practices
  • Recording & reporting skills to ensure continuity of web performance.
  • Able to communicate with a team of non-website developers, translating business requirements into website solutions.

  • HubSpot CRM certified.
  • Ability to read/write Python scripts to facilitate data exchange with the bioinformatics team. 
  • Understanding of how to display data-heavy outputs (e.g., genomic plots or cell data) on the web.
  • SQL, PHP.
  • Data visualisation (D3.js / Plotly).
  • Experience in the life sciences industry.
