About us:

Action Speaks Louder (ASL) is a not-for-profit galvanizing people around the world to hold major corporations to account for their climate promises. We focus on pressuring corporations to walk the talk on climate, in order to help deliver international climate goals. If we can pressure large consumer-facing, brand-sensitive corporations to live up to their climate commitments it will transform the landscape – dramatically reducing greenhouse gas emissions and boosting renewable energy procurement, whilst creating the political space for governments to increase ambition. Action Speaks Louder has built a diverse team of campaigners across multiple countries, and has a strong track record delivering outcomes from multinational companies. We are committed to offering equal opportunities in a diverse, flexible, family-friendly, supportive working environment.

The role:

Steel accounts for up to 10% of global emissions, and remains one of the more challenging sectors to decarbonise. The steel and automotive sectors are at a crossroads, with companies and policymakers promoting options risk locking in high emissions while genuine decarbonisation routes remain underdeveloped and under-organised. Pressure and market signals from steel buyers and end-consumers is largely absent and building demand remains a vital foundation upon which to build supply. We are looking for a Senior Steel Campaigner to work on the coordination, strategic alignment and execution of ASL’s expanding steel campaign. Working in coordination with our existing campaigns team, this position will help the global drive towards green steel demand and supply, and push corporate actors to invest in steel decarbonisation. You will work closely with the ASL leadership team, campaigners, researchers, and partners across multiple regions, but with a particular focus on the US and East Asia. You will help to hold ASL’s steel strategy and represent the organisation with partners and funders globally. Your role will ensure our work moves cohesively and efficiently between strategy and tactical execution to build momentum towards our targets.

Who we’re looking for:

● 5+ years of campaigning experience, ideally in sustainability, corporate accountability, industrial decarbonisation or movement organising.

● Strong strategic thinking and the ability to identify corporate, political and financial leverage points, and to stay abreast of developments in the sector.

● Honed tactical planning and execution, drawing on experience to deliver tactics which build power and move our targets towards our campaign goals.

● Experience working with media as a spokesperson, building relationships and delivering briefings and pitches to journalists, and representing the organisation to the media and on public platforms

● Excellent communication skills with a proven ability to distill complex ideas and information into campaign-winning messaging and narratives.

● A strong network and good relationship-building skills, including with NGOs, researchers, corporates, and institutional partners.

● Project management skills and the ability to keep complex workstreams on track.

● Comfort working across time zones, navigating priorities, and building alignment among diverse teams. Experience working in the non-profit sector or purpose-driven sector is preferred.

● (Desired but not required) a strong existing foundation of knowledge of steel decarbonisation opportunities and barriers.

Key responsibilities:

● Co-lead global coordination of ASL’s steel strategy, ensuring alignment across campaign streams

● Manage campaign planning and monitor progress across regions and teams. Work in close coordination with ASL’s South Korea team on national-level campaign work

● Identify risks, opportunities and emerging trends in the steel sector and maintain a coordinated and agile approach to strategy

● Keep abreast of policy developments relevant to the steel industry

● Lead the demand-side work of the campaign, building a team of campaigners and running streams of work which seek to increase and demonstrate demand for green steel globally

● Represent the organisation with funders, partners, the media and external stakeholders, advocating for our campaign asks and approach

● Support the development of public, media and investor-facing materials and messaging on green steel and heavy industry decarbonisation pathways

What we can offer you:

● The chance to shape a high-impact, multinational campaign at the core of industrial decarbonisation.

● A remote-first, dynamic, supportive and mission-driven team with global reach and strong track record of campaign success

● Flexibility and autonomy to build and direct the workstream.

● Competitive remuneration relevant to location.

● Learning, development and team management opportunities.

This is a 12 month contract for an 0.8-1.0 FTE position with possible renewal based on performance and continued funding.
